If you think family portraits have to be shot in a park or at the beach, the Hensons’ backyard shoot will make you reconsider. Their Christmas family portraits yesterday provided definitive proof that a back yard can be the perfect setting, especially when there are small children involved. Being right at home — with toys and food and clean diapers within arm’s reach — helps everyone feel relaxed, and the coziness of home lends such a personal touch to family portraits, something a public park, no matter how beautiful, can never do.

Here’s just a glimpse into what Danny and I believe was our easiest family portrait session ever. We’ve got tons of great pictures to sort and edit, but for now, enjoy a quick peek into the afternoon fun.
