I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Oceanside Country Club’s President’s Ball 2012 | Central Florida Event and Wedding Photography

Monday, February 20th, 2012

A few weeks ago, I got an email from Lorraine, the new membership and marketing director at Oceanside Country Club in Ormond Beach. Were Danny and I available to cover the black tie President’s Ball on February 4th? Would we want to? Yes, and yes.

Oceanside Country Club’s clubhouse, overlooking a gorgeous golf course that stretches down to A-1-A, is one of the oldest buildings in our area. The club was founded in 1907, and counted John D. Rockefeller among its early members. As a membership-only country club, not many people outside of the membership even seem to be aware the place exists, so Oceanside hasn’t been a very highly sought-after wedding venue — but that’s about to change. Oceanside is beginning to make a push to host elegant Ormond Beach weddings, and I know they’re going to succeed, especially after shooting the President’s Ball in the wonderful banquet hall. For starters, the venue has a classic, upscale feel — old wooden banisters, a rustic fireplace. The banquet hall can also comfortably hold 200 guests, which is more than all but a handful of local venues. Then there’s Lorraine herself — who was our coordinator when we got married at LPGA International. She’s just wonderful, and everything runs smoothly under her watch. The President’s Ball was no exception.

The view from Oceanside’s banquet hall is unbeatable: Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the golf course — and giving just a peek of the Atlantic Ocean beyond.
The room inside looked just as fabulous. The incoming president had requested a plum color palette, Lorraine recommended adding apple green, and the results were just perfect.
While Danny and I were wrapping up photographing all the fun details, the past presidents of Oceanside Country Club were enjoying a cocktail hour across the hall. Then they welcomed everyone into the glitzed-out banquet room and let the party get going!
As its name implies, the President’s Ball is basically the country club’s version of an inaugural ball — a time to appreciate the outgoing president and celebrate the incoming president. And of course enjoy a delicious dinner and dance and dressing to the nines.

The Kurt Johnston Band provided great entertainment for the evening — and brides, if any of you are looking for a band to offer fantastic classic rock and standards covers, look no further. Danny and I loved working to their soundtrack that night!
We loved the evening, loved shooting in such a wonderful old (but new for us) venue, and can’t wait to work at Oceanside again!
