I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Sharon + Harrison – University of Virginia Engagement Portraits Preview | Charlottesville and Northern Virginia Wedding and Engagement Photography

Monday, June 4th, 2012

Of course the weekend that Sharon and Harrison and Danny and I were able to sync up our schedules for an engagement session at Sharon’s (and Danny’s!) alma mater, the University of Virginia, it happened to be Reunion Weekend. There were dinner parties along the Lawn, dinner parties under tents, dinner parties in the school’s winding, walled gardens. There were, almost literally speaking, people everywhere.

But Sharon and Harrison weren’t phased. They had warned us that they might be kind of camera shy — which is what every couple worries about heading into their first photo shoot — but instead of seeming shy, then they spent the evening laughing and looking amazing. And in spite of all the people milling about UVA, and the construction on the Rotunda, we were able to get some wonderful shots along the iconic arches and columns flanking the Lawn — including this one Danny dreamed up and was able to capture just moments before the sun sank behind the building. It’s easily one of my favorite engagement portraits ever.Sharon and Harrison’s wedding is coming up this August at Keswick Vineyards in Charlottesville, and after their engagement session, I really, really can’t wait for their big day — her fabulous gown, his spiffy shoes, their sparkler-filled getaway. It’s going to be incredible. Especially if they look half as good as they did during their engagement portraits!Congrats, you two! We’ll see you again in just a couple of months!
