I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Saying Goodbye Isn’t as Sweet as Saying Hello

Monday, June 17th, 2013

Today, one of our best friends is moving out of state. It’s awful.

Over the years, so many of the people I care for most have moved, all around the country and sometimes overseas. And all the while, trips and vacations aside, I’ve stayed in the very same place. Geographically speaking, of course.I guess none of us ever know quite where life will take us. Growing up, a part of me couldn’t believe that I would live my whole life in the town where I was born and raised — but another part of me couldn’t stand the thought of living anywhere else. I can understand that not everyone I love can make their life work in this small corner of the world — but I hate that living the lives we want often comes at the expense of living our lives alongsideĀ the people we want.

Saying goodbye is like watching the tide retreat out to sea. You know you’ll say hello again. Next time. But you know it won’t be quite the same.
