It’s something I’ve come to expect from couples when we’re talking through their engagement session details. In fact, it seems inevitable. We talk through where we’re going to shoot, the day and time, what they’re going to wear. And then the bride informs me, “We’re pretty nervous in front of cameras.” Or she’ll say, “My fiance is pretty shy. I’m worried we’ll be awkward in our pictures.” Or, my personal favorite to date, “All your couples look like models in their pictures, and we’re definitely not models. We don’t know how to look good.”
Oh, brides, just you wait.
When it comes to life, the Beatles weren’t quite right in proclaiming that all you need is love; you need some other things in order to survive. But when it comes to having pictures taken, the photographer has to worry about the technicalities of the picture-taking process, but all the couple needs is to focus on their love. You love each other so much. That’s why you’re having a portrait session to begin with, to capture and commemorate this incredible love. All you need is to love on each other right then — and you won’t be able to help looking anything but lovely.~ Laura
