I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Kelly + Jeff – A Sunset Harbor Yacht Club Wedding | Daytona Beach Wedding Photographer

Thursday, November 21st, 2013

Their day dawned dark and drizzly, and by the time we were headed to Sunset Harbor for the ceremony, the sky was delivering on its threat of rain. But Kelly calmly declared that she didn’t care. She couldn’t control the rain, she said, so she refused to worry about it, because no matter what the sky hurled her way, by the time the evening arrived, she and Jeff were going to be married and everything would be wonderful. Rain or no rain.

Thankfully, the rain cleared up just when we needed it to for their ceremony and portraits — but Kelly was right. This was a wedding day that simply couldn’t have been spoiled.Sunset Harbor Yacht Club Wedding PhotographyDaytona Beach Florida Wedding PhotographerDaytona Beach Florida Wedding PhotographersKelly — who is a nurse, not a graphic designer — created her entire beautiful stationery suite! It took Kelly a moment to compose herself and get a hold of her emotions, but by the time she slipped up behind him, she was all smiles!Sunset Harbor Wedding Daytona Beach Wedding PhotographerDaytona Beach Wedding PhotojournalistDaytona Florida Wedding PhotojournalismBut there was another big reveal to come: While Jeff watched from the next room, Kelly mom led her father in to see his baby girl, transformed into a bride. But I have to admit, it’s a little hard for this die-hard Yankee fan to showcase it here. For Kelly and Jeff, it was extra special, and was yet another link to their Red Sox connection, which Jeff’s dad joked about during his speech. Kelly and Jeff first met when they were out with friends at a sports bar, watching the Red Sox, Jeff’s hometown team, in the 2004 World Series . . . which the Red Sox won. They reconnected and became a couple in 2007 . . . just as the Red Sox won the World Series again. Big things seem to happen for the Red Sox when these two get together, so once they set their wedding date for November 2, 2013, mere days after the World Series was slated to be played, Major League Baseball might as well have called off the entire season, because the Red Sox were fated to once again win it all. So naturally we whisked Kelly and Jeff out to a nearby balcony. We were only able to capture one rainbow due to our angle — but I’m not complaining! It isn’t every wedding that you get to shoot a rainbow!Central Florida Natural Light Wedding PhotographerCentral Florida Wedding Photographer Sunset Harbor Yacht ClubSunset Harbor Yacht Club Wedding Daytona wedding photographersBack inside, it was time to get the party underway.Florida Wedding Photographer Sunset Harbor Yacht ClubTimeless Wedding Photography Central FloridaClassic Wedding Photography Central FloridaWedding Photojournalist Daytona FloridaWedding Photojournalism Daytona Beach FloridaWedding Photojournalism Daytona FloridaWedding Photography Daytona Beach FloridaCentral Florida Wedding Photojournalism Daytona Beach WeddingWedding Photojournalist DaytonaWedding Photojournalism DaytonaThe Pastry Studio Daytona Wedding PhotographySunset Harbor Wedding Daytona Florida Wedding PhotographySunset Harbor Yacht Club Wedding Daytona wedding photographerThis was a group that most certainly knew how to have a good time!

  1. […] Sunset Harbor Yacht Club A private yacht club with Medeterranian-style architecture and a fantastic panoramic view of the Halifax River, right in Downtown Daytona Beach, Sunset Harbor has long been one of the most popular wedding venues in Daytona, offering dockside ceremonies and ballrooms overlooking the water. Sunset Harbor Yacht Club is currently closed; while we hope this beautiful property will reopen soon, we recommend checking out Halifax River Yacht Club, Palm Coast Yacht Club, and Smyrna Yacht Club in the meantime. To see Kelly + Jeff’s nautical-inspired Sunset Harbor wedding, click here.  […]

    Sherri,

Thanks so much for the kind words. Both your cakes were gorgeous and fit perfectly with the decor Kelly so carefully orchestrated! It was a truly wonderful celebration and we’re thrilled for Kelly and Jeff.

  3. What a beautiful couple and a lovely wedding & reception. Everything was cohesive in design, carrying through the Preppy yet Chic feel Kelly desired.
Laura you captured every moment as if we were there. It is such an experience and pleasure to go through each image. We were honored to be a part f this special day.
