They wanted a wedding that would reflect them — their love of God, their love of family, and their antique-china-set-buying, estate-sale-browsing love of all things vintage. With their Leu Gardens wedding earlier this month, Amy and Chris absolutely succeeded. There was so much happiness, including plenty of tears that spilled onto wide smiles, and so much personal, handmade and vintage style from the wardrobe to the decor.
The morning began beautifully overcast and almost misty.
This gown — this incredible gown — was handmade by Amy’s mother, elaborate tiered ruffles, intricate beading and all! And the broach bouquet was filled with one broach or pin from every female in Amy’s family, and a broach or pin that she specially picked out to represented each of her seven nieces and nephews. I absolutely love it when brides decide to pray with their bridal party before the ceremony. (I also loved it when, at the end of the prayer, one of Amy’s nieces asked, “Why did everyone put their hands on her?”)Another part of weddings that I love more and more as time goes by: The father-daughter first look. Hands-down, it’s one of the most thrilling, beautiful moments of the day, and filled with so many intertwined emotions. Amy and her dad were absolutely overjoyed that this day had arrived.Nearby, Chris got ready with his groomsmen.By ten o’clock in the morning, the guests were assembled, the harpist had begun playing, and it was time for Amy and Chris to get married!
Her father not only walked Amy down the aisle but performed the ceremony, too.Married! As the sun ducked behind some clouds again, creating soft, romantic light, the rose garden was the perfect spot to start Amy and Chris’s portraits. But they could have been absolutely anywhere — these two were just so, so happy to call each other “my husband” and “my wife.”Two of my favorite shots from the day — Amy’s family heirloom cameo necklace (her mother wore it on her own wedding day), and the picture Danny caught of Chris snuggling up to his bride.Amy, you were a gorgeous bride!
And Chris, you looked so dapper! This photograph of Amy’s tattoo — she grew up in Kenya as a missionary kid — was one I had envisioned months before their wedding day, and I just love how it came out. After the ceremony in the garden, the brunch reception took place inside the Camellia Room, which was decorated with handmade centerpieces . . . and smelled heavenly, thanks to the waffle station! No matter how any couple feels about dancing, the first dance is always an incredible time. Everyone else in the room fades away.As the party wound down, Amy and Chris changed and got ready to head out on their tour-of-the-South honeymoon.See even more in Amy and Chris’s slideshow:
Amy and Chris — we are so excited for you both, and were so thrilled to be a part of your wedding day! What a whirlwind this last year has been for you two, and what a wonderful future you have in store! We can’t wait to see where God leads you, together!
