I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Baby Sister’s One Month Portraits

Thursday, June 8th, 2017

Today is National Best Friends Day. And so it seems fitting to share these newborn portraits today, showcasing my more-than-half-a-lifetime best friend and her new baby girl and family. At her own childhood home. It couldn’t have been more fitting.

There was so much sweetness. There was so much laughter. I will admit that much of that laughter occurred while the two kiddos were crying (often thanks to the meanie adults insisting on diaper changes and not understanding remote controls are the best toys). But a lot of the laughter came from just being happy to see these two cuties with their parents.

And shout-out to grandma for making sure the flowers were picture-perfect for sweet baby girl’s first photographs!
Aaaand he’d already had enough of staying in one place.
We put this one in his sleeping quarters with some toys due to the remote control issue I’d mentioned. So then, instead of turning the TV on and off, he found the light switch and turned the lights on and off for the next five minutes to exact revenge entertain himself.
“And then what, Mom? Tell me all the stories!”
We took a few moments for a tickle fight…
…and then he perfected his chill.
It wasn’t all rambunctious two-year-old excitement, though. This tiny babe was as relaxed as could be in her daddy’s lap.
And we’ll close it out with one of my favorite mama-and-baby portraits ever:
Friends — I had a wonderful morning with your wonderful little family!
