I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Caitlin + David – Sunset Engagement Portraits in New Smyrna Beach | Florida Wedding and Engagement Photography

Thursday, October 25th, 2012

They have a story that sounded strikingly familiar to Danny and me: Boy sees girl in church one Sunday. Boy is hooked immediately. Girl begins to notice boy too. Girl has never had a boyfriend before . . . but she realizes pretty quick that there’s no doubt Boy is The One.

That’s Caitlin and David’s story. It’s also our story.

We’re living happily ever after. They’ll start their happily ever after in just a couple of weeks. And if their engagement session is any indication, it’s going to be absolutely beautiful. We headed to Smyrna Dunes Park with Caitlin and David, because New Smyrna is their beach of choice whenever they get the chance to slip out of Orlando and away from their busy jobs — she’s a nurse, he’s a pastor — for a day.It was pretty easy to see why David couldn’t take his eyes off Caitlin. She looked incredible. In just a few weeks, she is going to be one stunning bride.

I asked David why he was so excited to marry her, and he didn’t hesitate. He said she’s a beautiful person, inside and out, someone who loves God and loves people. That was a good answer. We could have spent days enjoying that gorgeous evening. I mean, can you believe the sunlight, the landscape — that couple?Oh, be still, my all-things-beautiful-loving heart. And this has become one of my all-time favorite photographs. So dreamy. We only spent a couple hours photographing these two, and then a couple more with them sharing some great Mexican food — but it’s plain to see that Caitlin and David are just perfect together. I love watching couples who seem so perfectly paired. I love thinking about what a blessing their marriage is going to be.As we looked out across Ponce Inlet to the northeast, we watched something just as spectacular as the sunset: A flock of hundreds of birds lifted off in unison, peppering the sky with their beating wings. It was almost eerie, but incredibly beautiful. The colors became richer and darker as the sun sank below the horizon. If we’d had paintbrushes and a full palette of sunset hues, we wouldn’t have been able to create anything half so striking. What can I say about an engagement session this beautiful? I can’t wait for their wedding! In the meantime, check out Caitlin and David’s slideshow for even more gorgeousness! (For best viewing quality, we recommend watching it in HD by selecting 720pHD in the lower right corner.)

Caitlin and David, thank you both so much for the wonderful evening, for entrusting us with your memories, and for giving us the opportunity to see what a wonderful relationship you two share! Enjoy these next two weeks until your wedding. We can’t wait to see you both again!
