LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Today, I’m going to finish organizing Kim and Darin’s wedding pictures. Looking through them, I feel all warm and fuzzy as the day springs to life again: Kim dancing with her dad, misty-eyed; the happy couple wandering Yacht Harbor Village in their first minutes as husband and wife. But I also feel all warm and […]

I decided I was done. I was never doing a shoot like that again. Ever! Finished-finito-fin. It wasn’t photography I was quitting, or any one type of photography. It was shooting with all my extra gear in a backpack that had become absolutely out of the question. Fumbling with zippers and pockets to retrieve a […]

Shooting weddings isn’t only part of my job, it’s something I truly, truly love. And it’s something I loved before it became my job. Not too long ago, before I was in the wedding business, I was a recurring wedding guest — and I always had a camera in my purse. The thing was, I […]

They called it “One to Grow On,” which for some reason reminded me of dreaded birthday spanks, but turned out much, much better. Even though Danny and I didn’t win any of the many prizes they gave away. Darn it. We still decided that this, the fifth stop on the Professional Photographers of America 2011 […]

He goes by Chef Aaron now, but when he began his culinary adventures, he would have been known as Seaman Butler. From high school, he went into the Navy and straight to his ship’s kitchen, where he first learned to cook, entirely from scratch. By the time he left the Navy after four years of […]

We stood in the bustling lobby at Hammock Beach Resort, Kim looking oh-so-chic in her vintage-styled outfit. With her dainty little hat, Mary Jane heels, and pencil skirt, it could have been 1945 — except that she was holding my BlackBerry to her ear, trying to get a hold of Darin. Last we had heard, […]
