I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Indoor Portraits: Why We Love Them

Tuesday, January 7th, 2014

A staple of our wedding photography is outdoor portraits, particularly with the bride and groom, and usually the bridal party as well. But more and more, we’ve fallen in love with indoor portraits.
Timeless wedding photography Orlando FloridaA few reasons why:

1.) Traditionally, wedding portraits — like all portraits — were created indoors. Initially this was because photography equipment was large and cumbersome, but as cameras got smaller, indoor portraits didn’t go out of style. Think of the wedding portraits you’ve seen of your grandparents. Most likely they were taken inside a church or inside a home; if they were outdoors, they were almost surely on the church steps. We love the tradition and timelessness of indoor portraits.Orlando natural light wedding photographer2.) Gorgeous light is something we strive for in all our photographs, and we love directional light. Directional light is exactly what it sounds like: Light coming from only one direction. Directional light, used properly, creates beautiful highlights and shadows on the subject, adding interest to the portrait, and it’s very flattering to the subject (and, again when used properly, can also be slimming). Directional light can be hard to come by out of doors, with sunlight pouring in all around a subject, but in most rooms with windows, we can use directional light to our advantage to create a timeless portrait.Florida natural light wedding portraits

3.) It would be a shame not to make use of a well-appointed room for portraits, wouldn’t it?Florida natural light wedding photographers

4.) Variety is almost always a good thing. We love having both indoor and outdoor portraits for our clients, schedule and location permitting.Florida natural light wedding photographer5.) Indoor portraits, if they’re possible to take at the getting ready location, are a great addition to each couple’s wedding album. A portrait of the bride once she’s wrapped in her veil is the perfect accompaniment to a spread of images of her wedding day details, and a portrait of the groom after he’s laced up his shoes goes nicely with the pictures of him having his boutonniere pinned on and tying his tie.Natural light wedding photographer Brooklyn

Check back next week to see why we love outdoor portraits!
