I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Embracing Busy-ness, and another Family Portrait Preview | Ormond Beach Photographer

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

I have vivid memories of days during my childhood when my family seemed to be rush-rush-rushing around, with barely a moment to catch our breath. My memories of those days are vivid because they were also rare; rather than being an always-scheduled child, after we finished (home)school each day, I had plenty of time to play, to write my never-ending — literally; I usually abandoned them rather than granting the dignity of an ending — stories, and as a teenager, to pester my mother to take me shopping. But there were some days when we had one thing after another: A school group meeting followed by a dental appointment followed by errands followed by a church event. Aside from the dental appointments, I loved those days. My mother assured me there would come a time when I wouldn’t, just as she assured me there would also come a time when I no longer wanted to wander the mall for hours on end.

Well, today was one of those one-thing-after-another days. While my ideal day would be having time to give my house a deep spring cleaning — and yes, I realize we’re fast approaching winter by now —  I still love busyness, as long as that busyness equates to getting things done. This week it has. So far, Danny and I have shot three out of four family portrait sessions, and I spent today prepping for the styled shoot we’ve got on the calendar for tomorrow. The rest of the week will be pretty busy, too: Meetings, shoots, edits. Really, it’s a one-thing-after-another week, and even though I’ve been nonstop tired, I’m quite enjoying the work. See? I can be a grown up and still like one-thing-after-another kinds of days!

But my mother was right about the mall.

And, since I’ve been dealing with too much busyness to get an entire photo session blogged, here’s another family portrait preview. This one was at the beautiful Rockefeller Gardens last Saturday, and if some of the family members look familiar, your eyes are not playing tricks — two parts of this wonderful extended family have been on my blog before, twice each. They’re all such a blast to work with that I hope they’ll be on the blog many more times in the future!
