I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Our Own Family Portraits Preview | Northern Virginia Wedding and Portrait Photography

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

Oh, the trials we endured for this family portrait session!

We drove 12 hours. We had to shoot it at 10:00 at night, because a busy and behind-schedule restaurant kept most of the family members out later than intended. To top it all off . . . Danny and I had to get in these pictures ourselves. Because this was our family, and these were our family’s Christmas portraits.

And if we do say so ourselves, we’re a pretty nice looking bunch!
Danny and I were so pleased to be able to squeeze in a portrait session at his parents’ house just outside Washington, D.C. before the families began scattering to different states today. It isn’t easy trying to sync schedules with families in five states, or with three college students, or with a student who’s applying to colleges, or with parents flying in and out of the country, or with dogs who rarely see a point in looking at the camera even when you finally get them in front of one. But it happened. It was a great way to wrap up our 2011 photo shoots!
