I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

All That Glitters

Friday, January 6th, 2012

You might remember my wonderful friend Erin from the beach portraits I took of her with her best friend (and upcoming Maid of Honor) Hannah, last July. Erin told me after the fact that, during our photo session, Hannah kept whispering to her, “Adam’s going to love these pictures of you. Adam’s going to love these.” Based on the number of those pictures of her that he liked on Facebook, he did. But Hannah didn’t breathe a word of that to me — and Erin hardly breathed a word about Adam to anyone until he popped the question a few months later, and she officially introduced him to the world. Her fiance. Her husband-to-be. The great guy whom she’s going to spend her life with, and who gave her this pretty piece of sparkles.
I spent a few minutes setting up these pictures when Erin and I met for lunch today, while she’s in town visiting family. When she first got engaged, she told me that she’d never known what kind of ring she wanted — but as soon as Adam produced this one, she knew it was perfect for her. Although I haven’t met her groom yet, I couldn’t be happier for them both, and I can’t wait to get to know Adam. I also truly wish Danny and I could be there for their wedding in Kansas this June — but we will try to squeeze in a newlywed portrait session with them if they have time when they swing into town after their Caribbean honeymoon. That’s something else I can’t wait for!

Congratulations, you two! Many blessings, and best wishes.
