I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

My Favorite Things . . . Right Now: Matinee Movies, 400-Person Dance Parties, and The Olympics (Finally!) Kicking Off in London | Central Florida Wedding Photographer

Friday, July 27th, 2012

Maybe you could call it a mental health day. Or just a “day off,” since, other than my time chaperoning summer came last week, we really haven’t taken a full one of those in . . . over a year.

Today, both Danny and I played a bit of hooky (although, truth be told, I’m sending emails and working right now just by writing up this blog post) today. At six a.m., he went shrimping with a friend; by ten a.m. he returned home — shrimpless, unfortunately! While he napped, just after lunchtime, I headed to the movie theater with a couple of friends for my first matinee movie since college (the last one was also Pixar — Finding Nemo, since I’m sure you’re curious).Which leads me to my second monthly installment of My Favorite Things . . . Right Now.

I’ve already mentioned the matinee movie (loved it!), but I feel like I owe you a legit explanation for the 400-person dance party. Those 400 people were middle school students. It took place inside . . . a chapel. And I’ll cop to starting the “everybody-dance-your-way-all-around-the-building-in-a-huge-skipping-conga-style-line” movement when “I’ve Got a Feeling” came blasting through the speakers. Although I’m really not sure which was the most fun: That, the huge mosh-pit-dance to “We Are Young” on the last night of camp, or the massive and hysterical singalong to “Call Me Maybe” the first night. No, folks, church camp ain’t just church services. It’s being really silly, going down giant water slides, and letting 11-year-old girls spend an afternoon convinced they have to bite the head off a dead fish. (Really, they started that rumor themselves. We just embellished it for them a bit.)

And tonight, the Olympics finally officially get underway. Woohoo! As an Olympic addict, it feels like I’ve been waiting 29 months for this to finally happen! And, since it has in fact been 29 months since the last Olympics, I have.

Oh, also — Disney. Seeing a Disney/Pixar movie today, previews for Disney movies, and that awesome Disney intro panning back to look at the sparkling 3D Cinderella’s castle got me in the mood for some serious Disney World time. We’re not going into any of the parks, but tomorrow night’s engagement session will be getting me pretty darn close, so stay tuned!
