I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

My Favorite Things . . . Right Now: Wedding Blogs, Paninis, and Reaffirming My Belief that the Book Is (Almost) Always Better than the Movie

Tuesday, August 28th, 2012

When we drove to Virginia and back for Sharon + Harrison’s wedding, I read out loud to Danny. We finished Mockingjay, the last of the Hunger Games trilogy (with an unfortunate seven hours left to drive. . .) on the way home, and I think we accomplished a rare feat: We found a piece of fiction that Danny enjoyed almost as much as I did. However, we watched the Hunger Games movie while we were up in Virginia, and Danny was seriously unimpressed. I was slightly more forgiving, but I felt about it the same way I did with the Keira Knightly version of Pride and Prejudice: It was pretty true to the book, only on fast forward. (Hmm — another too-short movie starring Donald Southerland.) If you’re going to make a movie of an in-depth book, please, go the Peter Jackson route and give us three and a half hours of pure happiness.

Well, since we’ve been home, we haven’t read anything else (although I’m about ready to re-read the Hunger Games books for a third time in as many months — would that be irrational?). We’ve been editing photos, cleaning our house, and making paninis. Glorious, beautiful, yummy paninis. Finally getting some serious use out of the glorious, beautiful, yummy panini press Danny’s mom gave me at my bridal shower three years ago. I think it’s going to be a staple in our house from now on.

Oh, and something else I’d love to make a staple: Having our fabulous couples published on equally fabulous wedding blogs. We’ve got several more features slated to run in the coming weeks, and we can’t wait to see them!

Okay, that’s all I have time for. There’s a panini calling my name and a book I need to re-re-read.
