I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Wedding Planning Wednesday # 1: The Kick-Off | Florida Wedding Photographers

Wednesday, September 19th, 2012

This is something that’s been slow-simmering in my pot of ideas for some time now. Back in the day, when I was engaged, I started a blog to help other brides plan their weddings. I even  started working on a book about planning, from the perspective of a bride. But, being busy (you know, my own wedding and all), I abandoned the book. A few months later, the blog met the same fate. And now here I am, blogging almost daily about all things wedding as a wedding photographer — and I think it’s time to start making wedding planning tips a regular part of my blogging again.

So, I’m introducing Wedding Planning Wednesdays. Every Wednesday on the blog, we’ll be tackling another aspect of planning a wedding — and I won’t always be the one dispensing advice. To bring you well-rounded wedding planning tips you can use, I’ll be calling on other wedding professionals to share their insights. Event planners, cake artists, videographers, DJs, officiants, past brides. Eventually, you’ll see them all on the blog, sharing their knowledge and hopefully making your own wedding planning a little easier.

But for today, I’m not passing out many tips — just letting you know to be on the lookout for them each Wednesday from now on. I don’t want to leave you hanging though, so we’ll wrap up with one little nugget (thanks, Jae!) that got me through the final, jam-packed weeks leading up to my own wedding:

Solidify your honeymoon plans early enough in the wedding planning process that they can serve as an anchor — and whenever working on your wedding seems like it might overwhelm you, step back for a moment and envision yourself on your honeymoon. Maybe you’ll be lounging on a tropical beach, or roaming the streets of Paris. Whatever your destination, keep a photo handy to always remind yourself that an incredible adventure awaits.

(No, that photo actually isn’t from our honeymoon — it’s from our first anniversary cruise and was taken in the Dominican Republic.)

Cheers!
