I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

2012: A Year In Weddings | Florida Wedding Photographers

Friday, December 28th, 2012

Oh, 2012, you have been a wonderful year!

We’ve been so incredibly blessed to work with some amazing brides and grooms this year, and we couldn’t be more grateful to have gotten to know these couples. Being a part of their weddings was such a joy. So we thought we’d take this opportunity to relive them again, just like we did with our 2012 engagement sessions last week. So without further ado — our weddings of 2012!

Nikole + Arun – February 24 at Princess Place Preserve, Palm Coast, FL
Nikole and Arun’s low-key, romantic Princess Place Preserve elopement really set the tone for the year! They were absolutely giddy to promise their lives to each other in front of no one but their officiant and the the unseasonably warm skies. And of course, the two of us. It was such a pleasuring being a part of their day — and then seeing it published on Le Magnifique in July. We are beyond excited for what 2013 will bring these two . . . because they’ll be welcoming a baby next year!Kaci + Frank – March 17 at Coquina Presbyterian Church, Ormond Beach, FL
We have known Kaci and Frank since their earliest days as a couple, and Frank’s family have been dear friends of mine since elementary school. So photographing their wedding day was a privilege and a joy for us! Bonus: They got married at our church, which was where Danny and I got married too. It was so exciting sharing in the beginning of someone else’s marriage in the very same room, and just wonderful seeing how delighted they were to begin their new life together. Amber + Daniel – March 24 at Honey Lake Plantation, Greenville, FL
I don’t think I’ve ever known a bride who planned her wedding as meticulously as Amber planned her Honey Lake Plantation wedding with Daniel . . . which was only fitting, since she is a wedding planner. It was such a big and beautiful production that we actually blogged it over three blog posts, here, here, and here — well, four, if you count their rehearsal dinner! And then to cap things off, their wedding was featured on Style Me Pretty later in the year. But better still, it was a celebration truly built around their love for each other, and for the Lord, and that was every bit as beautiful as a wonderful details.Kristy + Nick – April 21 at Princess Place Preserve and Oceanside Country Club, Ormond Beach, FL
For the second time in two months, Kristy and Nick‘s wedding took us back to Princess Place. Kristy looked flawless, Nick looked overjoyed to see her. And we couldn’t have been happier to be a part of their beautiful wedding ceremony and lovely Oceanside Country Club wedding reception, which was published on The East Coast Bride this past September. And like Nikole and Arun, they’ll have something extra special to celebrate this coming year: They’ll be welcoming a baby for their first anniversary!Taylor + Jerry – May 5 at Westminster-by-the-Sea Presbyterian Church and the Riverfront Center at St. Demetrios, Daytona Beach, FL
Taylor and Jerry
‘s wedding celebration came on a steamy spring day — but they were as cool and calm while they prepared to marry each other as you could imagine any bride and groom. Before their Westminster-by-the-Sea ceremony, they met up outside, hiding out of sight from each other as they exchanged cards, held hands, and tried (and failed) to blink back a tear or two. There were plenty more tears throughout their emotional, love-packed ceremony and reception, and we were so honored to be there for it.Jennifer + Cheddy – May 28 at First Alliance Church of Orlando, Orlando, FL
We just love the story of the romance the bloomed — very unexpectedly — when Jennifer and Cheddy were thrown together a year after their initial, and completely underwhelming, introduction. But their disinterest turned to love before long, and their love led to an engagement even more quickly. It was so special to watch that engagement turn into a marriage, at Jennifer’s home church in Orlando, as the pair looked forward to heading overseas as Bible translators. We know they will tackle that work with the same exuberance and joy that we saw from them on their wedding day!Laura + Sam – June 30 at First Baptist Orlando and the Historic Dubsdread Ballroom, Orlando, FL
Laura and Sam
— I’m not sure quite where to start about their lovely June wedding at First Baptist Orlando (where they met and fell in love) and the Historic Dubsdread Ballroom, so I think I’ll start with Laura’s gown. That gown! Her Pronovias gown had me smitten from the start, and this might be a stretch, but I think Sam liked it even more. He was definitely wild about the girl wearing the dress. Their sweet ceremony, officiated by Laura’s father, and intimate reception were a perfectly classic affair — so classic that it was published on Classic Bride in September. Sharon + Harrison – August 19 at Keswick Vineyards, Keswick VA
With Sharon and Harrison, we got to photograph our first out of state wedding — and it was such a treat, set amid the gorgeous vineyards of Central Virginia, and against the backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains, at the fabulous Keswick Vineyards. What most stands out to me as I think back on their wedding day is just how excited Sharon was — exuberant, really. She just couldn’t wait to see her groom at their first look, and to walk down the aisle to him, and to drive off (in a vintage MG convertible, no less!) with him into their new life together. Their wedding was featured on Limn & Lovely this December.Tricia + Jonathan – September 28 at the University of North Florida, Jacksonville, FL
It is absolutely wonderful watching your friends fall in love and get married. It’s wonderful watching it through your camera, too! Tricia and Jonathan‘s Jacksonville wedding provided just that opportunity — well, for me; Danny was a little preoccupied with best man duties for a lot of the day. We loved Jonathan’s father’s charge to the couple as he performed the ceremony, we loved the classic red and white roses, and we loved the love between Tricia and Jonathan during their golden hour portraits.Claire + Bill – October 20 at First Presbyterian Orlando and The Rosalind Club, Orlando, FL
Claire and Bill had one of the most classically elegant weddings I’ve ever seen — a ceremony in the grand sanctuary at First Presbyterian Church of Orlando where Claire has attended church her whole life, a timeless lace gown, bow ties for the men, and a sophisticated, understated reception at The Rosalind Club. That was Claire’s goal: Timelessness. But I don’t think any of the details from their lovely wedding were more beautiful than the way she smiled at Bill and the way he looked at her. Their wonderful wedding was on Style Me Pretty in November. Tammy + Marc – November 2 at Orlando Airport Marriott, Orlando, FL
Tammy and Marc
were hoping for a beautiful fall day for their outdoor ceremony at the Orlando Airport Marriott — and that was just what they got. Golden sunlight, balmy weather, blue skies. And then, after dark, a lightshow inside their reception and a party that rocked on until midnight! They poured so much energy into their beautiful wedding, and nowhere moreso than their vows, which were touching and humorous. Just like Tammy and Marc. Molly + Oscar – November 9 at Tavern & Chapel In the Garden, Port Orange, FL
These two were so much fun! Molly and Oscar DIYed most of their wedding — from the photo booth Oscar whipped up to the adorable treasure chest place card display to the Mickey and Minnie shaped fall wreathes — and added plenty of other personal, meaningful and emotional touches, like Molly’s broach bouquet and her mother’s veil. Needless to say, their Tavern and Chapel In the Garden wedding turned out beautifully. Caitlin + David – November 10 at Aloma Church, Winter Park, FL
Never before have we been a part of such a large wedding — 1,000 people turned out to witness Caitlin and David‘s marriage at Aloma Church, where David is a co-pastor. And they were in for a beautiful treat with Caitlin and David’s simple and timeless wedding. Gorgeous florals, a stunning cake, a lovely lace gown — and the most heartfelt of wedding worship ceremonies. What a wonderful beginning to their marriage.Jordan + Wes – December 12 at Lake Mary Events Center, Lake Mary, FL
These two share a long and romantic story that culminated with a beautiful wedding at the Lake Mary Events Center earlier this month, nearly two and a half years after Wes surprised Jordan with a welcome-home proposal when he met her at the airport, her whole family in toe. Their wedding was just as magical on a sometimes-stormy December evening. We cannot wait to share all of their wonderful rustic winter wedding on the blog next week!
That wraps up our 2012 in weddings! Here’s to our fantastic couples, and to an equally wonderful 2013!

Laura + Danny
