I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Back In the Land of Palm Trees and Dirty Dishes | Daytona Beach Wedding Photographer

Monday, January 7th, 2013

So here I am, back in my own office inside my own home, in my own town in this (sometimes, but not quite enough as of late) sunny corner of the country.

After the whirlwind of going up to Virginia for (a white!) Christmas and New Year’s and then returning to Florida just in time for Nneka and Bobby’s wedding, this marks the first week of routine that I’ve had in nearly 21 days. It’s good to be back — to get into the swing of things. Even if that swing kicked off with a stack of dirty dishes in my sink that I hadn’t had time to wash before we headed out of state.

Yes, it’s good to be back. To my own bed. My shower, my kitchen, my computer with two side-by-side monitors that let me work quickly and efficiently as we edit up a couple of weddings and dive into our plans for 2013.

So here’s to kicking off and getting into the swing of things again. What exactly does that look like for me this year? Stay tuned — more to come about that in just a few days!~ Laura
