I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Being the Best Me

Thursday, January 31st, 2013

It can be frustrating, can’t it? You’re plugging away, doing the best you possibly can (or the best you think you can), and when you pause to catch your breath, you happen to also catch sight of someone else. Who is doing the same thing. And doing it better.

Now, I don’t know about you, but it makes me just about want to go crazy for a few minutes.

I try keeping blinders on, to a certain extent, and I try to maintain a healthy perspective. Where I am right now might be exactly where that someone else was a year or two ago. And I remind myself that, although my business isn’t yet where someone else’s is, and although my home isn’t perfectly decorated yet like another person’s, and although I don’t have my life completely figured out the way still another person does, it’s all okay as long as I’m making forward progress, as long as I’m still working toward what I want to be doing.

No matter how much it might look to me as though someone else is living out my dream, the truth is nobody else can live my dream. So why should I settle for trying to live someone else’s?
