I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

My Favorite Things . . . Right Now: Eating My Vegetables, Unending Encouragement . . . and Nneka + Bobby’s Wedding on Rustic Wedding Chic!

Thursday, February 7th, 2013

Yikes! It’s been over two months since my last “My Favorite Things . . . Right now” post, and I’ve been trying to stick to blogging them monthly. Because, you know, my favorite things change depending on when it’s “right now.” So what am I loving “right now”?

Well, there’s Nneka and Bobby’s fabulous DIY wedding on Rustic Wedding Chic today, for one! Nneka planned their wedding perusing Rustic Wedding Chic for inspiration, and so I am absolutely over the moon that now her wedding is featured on her favorite blog to inspire other brides! Thank you, Maggie, for the beautiful feature! Stop by Rustic Wedding Chic and leave the newlyweds some love! The other things that are my favorites. . . .

Well, there’s leafy greens — oh my goodness, they are the best thing ever, and I really, really cannot get enough of them. When planning our weekly dinners, I want to build them around kale instead of building them around a meat; when I’m hungry for a snack in the afternoon, I reach of a bowl of leftover collards instead of a box of crackers. Because oh my goodness leafy greens are my favorite things! And like so many of my other favorite foods — Brussels sprouts, fresh fish, hummus, asparagus, brie cheese, winter squash — I didn’t like them as a kid. Thank goodness for growing up!

There’s also the incredible weather we’ve been enjoying. Except for a few days of semi-frigidness, we’ve had a really, really mild winter since Danny and I left the snow up in Virginia when we headed home after the New Year. We’ve been loving it, and we’re not the only ones. Our bougainvillea has been blooming as cheerfully as if it were growing on a mountainside in St. Lucia! There’s one last thing I’m so, so grateful for right now. Well, I’m grateful for it all the time, but just so aware of it these days: The encouragement and support of my photographer friends who span all corners of the country. From helping me talk through business ideas to setting up an accountability group to keep us reading our Bibles, I’ve just really been appreciating these ladies more than ever recently!
