We’re all used to seeing bridesmaids in matching dresses. . . And bridesmaids in semi-matching dresses — same color, different styles (for the maid of honor, at Jordan and Wes’s wedding). . . And we’ve gotten used to seeing bridesmaids who coordinate, rather than matching, too. . . They’re all great options — so how do you decide which one is right for your wedding?
For me, the answer was twofold, and simple. First, there were simply too many gorgeous styles to choose from. I wanted my bridesmaids to be a fashion show at my wedding. Second, my bridesmaids varied greatly in height and build, and I knew they would probably feel more confident choosing a style to suit their own bodies rather than having me pick one that I thought would look good on everyone.
These are the questions I would recommend asking yourself as you decide:
- Do you prefer a uniform look, or a little bit more diversity?
- Is there one specific style or color that you have your heart set on?
- Does the designer you’re considering using offer styles and colors that will enhance your wedding if you mix and match them?
- Will all of your bridesmaids look great in the same style/color dress?
- Will your bridesmaids be happier not having to do any dress hunting and wearing the style you choose, or being a part of the decision-making process?
- Do you like your bridesmaids’ sense of style?
- Will it make your life easier to choose one style or to put your bridesmaids in charge of finding their own dresses?
Whichever path you decide to follow, these days, it’s hard to go wrong. There are so many incredible bridesmaid dress designers out there — and to tell you the truth, I was kind of sad that I didn’t get a bridesmaid dress for my own wedding; that’s how much I was in love with them! Happy dress shopping — and check back next week for tips about finding the perfect wedding gown!
