I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Soaking It In

Thursday, May 30th, 2013

Do you ever stop to calculate all the blessings that fill up your life? I mean really list them, out loud, or tick them off on your fingers.

Here, I’ll help you get started in case you haven’t. I’ve written down a few for all of us.

  • I’m blessed with healthy food to nourish my body and make my taste buds dance.
  • I’m blessed to live in a time when we all have more money at our disposal than all but the richest of kings had in centuries past.
  • I’m blessed to have more freedom and more rights than people enjoyed in almost every other civilization and era.
  • I’m blessed with a beautiful world I can enjoy, free of charge, each day.

I took these photos the other evening, when I looked out my window and realized the tail end of the day was simply too beautiful to stay inside. A storm rode on the horizon, but the sunlight refused to let go. It was a wonderful analogy for life.

There are so many things like that in our lives — in all our lives. I know some of us have more burdens to bear than others, and I know some of those burdens feel impossibly heavy. But we’re all incredibly blessed, too.

Soak in your blessings. Revel in them. Recount them to yourself so you never forget.
