I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Emily + Demien – A Stormy St. Augustine Engagement | Florida Wedding and Engagement Photography

Thursday, July 25th, 2013

Of course a couple who came all the way from the other side of the country — where it rarely rains — to get married in the Sunshine State would be greeted with the remnants of a tropical storm!

Emily and Demien took it like champs. They embraced the sunny-then-stormy afternoon at Vilano Beach, just north of St. Augustine, and decided that it was simply part of the story. Their story. Take that, rain. You’re nothing more than a unique plot twist to these two.

They laughed together and encouraged each other and flirted and couldn’t stop smiling. Couldn’t wait for the next day and a half to breeze by so they could celebrate the start of their marriage. Couldn’t wait for what comes next. But first — their sunny-then-stormy engagement session on the Atlantic.I loved the color combo of Demian’s light blue shirt — that mimicked the sky — and Emily’s poppy red dress — that jumped out from the neutral backgrounds of sea and sand and sky.

Oh, and work it, Emily! These two so obviously made each other as happy as could be. As we headed down the beach, we watched a storm roll in from the west, over St. Augustine and into the inlet. It was spectacular. We stayed on the beach as long as we dared, then sprinted for cover as the storm broke through the clouds overhead. But even in the pavilion, Emily and Demian kept up the cuteness.Do you love Emily’s unique ring setting as much as I do?As soon as the thunder and lightning cleared the area, we pulled out the umbrellas. And these two got even cuter once they had props to play with.Same moment, two perspectives. Mine is on the left, Danny’s is on the right.Want to see more? Check out Emily and Demian’s slideshow!

Emily and Demian, thank you so much for the fun evening in the rain! We loved getting to know you two ahead of your wedding . . . and we can’t wait to share your wedding soon, too!
