I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Wedding Planning Wednesday # 50: Choosing Your Wedding Colors | Central Florida Wedding Photography

Wednesday, September 11th, 2013

For me, choosing my wedding’s colors was one of the hardest parts of planning. I’ve never been someone who had one favorite color, and there were just so many gorgeous shades to choose from once I started wading through bridesmaid dresses. I bounced from wanting my girls in a soft china blue to a muted shade of warm pink and finally settled on a rich shade of blackberry and pairing it with chartreuse, drawing inspiration from coleus and cymbidium orchids.

So how did I land on those colors? These are the questions I worked through. Then take a peek below for some gorgeous color palette inspiration from just a few of the weddings we’ve shot in the past year.

  • What colors work well with your venue(s)?
  • What colors will look good on your bridal party?
  • Are there any specific colors that are “you”?
  • Are there are particular flowers you know you want at your wedding that will dictate the color palette?
  • Do you want contrasting colors for striking effect or complementary colors and shades within the same color family for a cohesive, semi-monochromatic look?
  • Do you want specific “colors” at all, or would you prefer to decorate your wedding with lots of complementary shades?
