I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

A Quiet Walk in the Country

Monday, November 4th, 2013

Sometimes you just need to head down roads you don’t know. Sometimes you need to just go exploring. And sometimes you need to just park your car and go for a walk in the woods. Or along a boardwalk criss-crossing a lake covered with alien life forms — otherwise known as lily pads.LilypadsYesterday afternoon, Danny and I set out with a vague destination in mind. Instead, we decided to take a right turn where our directions told us to go left, and then we left directions behind altogether. An hour later, we found ourselves at a remote park Danny had never been to in his eight years in Florida, and which I hadn’t visited for twenty years. It wasn’t where we’d intended to go. But out there in the golden afternoon, watching tiny fish splashing, a kingfisher diving, and listening to a distant, early owl talking through the trees,  it felt like exactly where we needed to be.
