I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

With 2020 several weeks underway now, I’m just getting to reflect back on 2019, and just how much life changed. Danny and I became parents. And after years of photographing other people’s families, we finally started getting family portraits of our own. And making up for lost time, with four different photo shoots of our […]

I know, I know — two months is a long time between blog posts! But we’ve been busy, for a very good reason (or ten). In short, here’s what we did in those two months: Traveled to Atlanta for a business trip. Traveled to Nebraska to help our friends move. Helped run a weekend beach retreat for […]

This month was one we’d been looking forward to all year — because, after years and years of daydreaming about a trip to France together, it finally happened. It was wonderful. An apartment in Saint-Germain served as our home base for two weeks of seeing all the sights, sampling all the food . . . and […]

Well, 2016 is almost a wrap. We’re down to the final handful of hours. This year overflowed with portrait sessions — families. Engagements. Newborns. Seniors. Equestrian. An editorial shoot. One vow renewal. One elopement. Two adoptions, one domestic and one halfway around the world. We photographed our family in July. We photographed ourselves as snowflakes fell on […]

Last spring, I shared the story behind Legacy Portraits. But the story of how I became a photographer in the first place? That’s a story I’ve told over and over — but I’m honestly not sure if I’ve ever written it down. So here goes! My photography story starts in college, with a few flashbacks to my […]

It started with a piece of paper from Rifle Paper Co. A beautiful floral print in hues of sweet peach and apricot and cream and sage and fir. (If you look for it, you’ll find it peeking out on the table.) Then came the birch wood, the heirloom sterling silver, the white pumpkins, the handmade burlap utensil […]
