I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

What We’ve Been Doing Lately Is….

Thursday, March 29th, 2018

know, I know — two months is a long time between blog posts! But we’ve been busy, for a very good reason (or ten). In short, here’s what we did in those two months:

Traveled to Atlanta for a business trip. Traveled to Nebraska to help our friends move. Helped run a weekend beach retreat for 150 high school students. Traveled to New York City for a business trip. Worked behind the scenes on a whole bunch of business ideas. Shot a bunch of portrait sessions. And . . .  completed our adoption dossier and home study.

That’s right. We announced on social media back on January 1 that we’re adopting from Korea, and that’s when we added a pop-up to our website about how this year’s photography jobs are funding the adoption — but I realized the adoption news never quite made it to the blog! To say it’s been time-consuming (and attention-consuming!) would be an understatement. The very next step in this process is getting matched with our child. And that could happen in a matter of weeks! We’re excited, and just a little overwhelmed. So we’ve also been busy starting to get a bedroom ready for a toddler, learning about parenting after adoption, and somehow trying to soak in the news that, before the end of the year, there will most likely be another walking, talking person in our house.

Our dog has no idea what’s coming. But meantime, as usual, I’ve been shooting high school seniors and families and newborns and couples, and I promise there are new sessions that will go up on the blog soon! For now, here’s a peek:
