I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Whew, is everyone else feeling as busy as I am?! Yesterday, I saw a little trinket box for sale, and it was stamped with the phrase “Next year, I plan to start putting off my Christmas shopping extra early.” You guys. This is my life. Every single year! I always promise myself I’ll be ahead […]

For years, I had watched people sharing photographs of Friendsgiving get togethers, and for years I had wanted to do the same. This year it finally happened, because as it turned out, we have friends who had always wanted to pull together a Friendsgiving, too! It was a quiet and cozy get together, a Florida-themed […]

For months (years, if I’m being honest), I’ve been saying I wanted to do something to make our front door more welcoming and inviting. A couple months ago we finally kicked off that project by painting the doors a wonderful, rich colonial blue, and then last weekend —┬ávoila. I don’t have a particularly good track […]

For the second year in a row when we did a photo swap with Eileen and Phillip of Blume Photography while we were at the CONNECT Retreat, we walked away absolutely in love with the portraits they captured of us. And as photographers, it is so valuable to get in front of the camera sometimes […]

A couple weeks ago as I lay face-down on a massage table, I told our chiropractor that Danny and I were about to head up to Georgia for a marriage conference. “Again? Didn’t you just go?!” Yes, one year before. And we had gone one year before that, too. Actually, we plan to go every […]

When I set out to scale back my blogging last year, I wasn’t intending to nearly abandon the blog altogether, save for posting a few photo shoots and weddings here and there. Then again — when I set out to start a photography business early in 2011, I wasn’t intending to become a blogger! Sometimes […]
