I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Here’s to Sunlight

Tuesday, November 19th, 2013

After several days of overcast skies, high winds, intermittent rain (and one cancelled photo shoot as a result), and general dreariness, I can’t tell you how excited I was when I woke up to sunlight yesterday morning. Beautiful, rejuvenating sunlight.

And I wasn’t the only one grateful for it.FlowersOur pink bougainvillea was finally blooming again! It’s been working on its little buds for weeks now, and at last, they’ve finally opened up into fireworks of flowers.

Now, even as I work at my computer, I can see them out the corner of my eye. I’m so grateful for those little blooms, for the sunlight, for the open-window weather. I’m so grateful even to be able to take the time to be grateful.

How many blessings go unnoticed every day? I’m challenging myself, leading up to Thanksgiving, to count up 50 mundane things I’m so, so grateful for as I live my everyday life. Check back next week for my list!
