I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

My Favorite Things . . . Right Now: Sunshine, Gift Cards, and Olympics 24/7

Monday, February 10th, 2014

Florida is called the Sunshine State, so you’d expect it to be sunny here. Every few weeks this winter though, we’ve gone through a dreary, rainy patch of weather that has lasted several days, and felt like it will last forever. After a couple days of dark gray skies and rain-slicked roads, I truly feel as if it’s been an age since I saw the sun poking through clouds. So after the latest stint of stormy weather, I am incredibly grateful for all the sunshine we enjoyed yesterday, and the sunshine I woke up to this morning!

Something else I’ve been grateful for this winter: Gift cards. Specifically, Starbucks gift cards. Several people decided to give us Starbucks gift cards in a span of a few weeks — and seriously, I think I feel richer when I have a stash of gift cards than when I have a wallet full of cash! Lattes! Every! Day! (Just kidding . . . kind of.)

Speaking of every day, it’s Olympics time. Which means you’ll find me glued to the television every night, watching those tape-delayed broadcasts of events that happened hours before. So don’t tell me who won in advance! I’m very determinedly abstaining from news websites, and pretty much avoiding my Facebook newsfeed once the day’s events are underway in Sochi. Because even if it’s something that happened nine or twelve or fifteen hours before, I want to watch it play on on my TV, not simply read the name of the winners and losers (I’m looking glaring at you, “trending on Facebook” info box!). Watching the Olympics is something I remember incredibly fondly, dating back to when I was six years old and my parents put me to bed at my normal bedtime, but then woke me up a couple hours later to watch Kristi Yamguchi win the ladies’ figure skating gold medal in the Alberville games. So don’t come between a girl and her Olympics!

Have a great sunny, caffeinated, sports-centric week, everyone!
