Beautiful things can happen when you’re willing to brave the summer heat and humidity (and dragonfly-sized mosquitoes) for the sake of family portraits. That’s what we found out when we met up for portraits at Washington Oaks one evening last month. The boys kept telling us, “There are flies on me” — and by flies, they meant mosquitoes. So we hurried through the gardens so we could get down onto the beach. But in the photographs, you can’t see the bugs. You just see magic.
Really, “magic” isn’t much of an exaggeration. This afternoon was absolutely enchanted.
Oh, the photograph on the right — they were doing what I labeled The Mosquito Dance!
Crossing the street from the gardens and stepping out onto the beach was such a breath of fresh air — literally! It felt about ten degrees cooler by the water, we’d left the bugs and shoes behind, and everyone was ready to just have fun as the sun settled into the horizon.
An apricot glaze washed over the sky to the west, and it was perfect! Simply the sweetest.
So long!
I loved working with this family and these three funny, adventurous boys!
