I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

She was so ready to go see her husband-to-be that she could hardly get into her gown fast enough. They saw each other in front of the grand old house, under wet gray skies and against the backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains. They held hands, and he asked her to twirl, and her cheeks […]

It was the handkerchiefs that nearly did me in — the handkerchiefs Taylor and Jerry gave their mothers on the morning they got married, thanking each mom for raising her child to be the perfect partner. Then there was the no-look, where Taylor flicked away a few tears as she read Jerry’s card, Jerry standing […]

Where has the time gone? It feels like just a few weeks ago that Kristy’s stunning Melissa Sweet gown was laid out on her bed, ready for the bride to get zipped up, and that Nick’s bow tie sat by the window, ready for the groom to put it in place. And then they were […]

The forecasters had called for thunderstorms all day — and possible hail and tornadoes. As Amber got ready, tucked away inside a windowless room where she couldn’t see the rain punishing the earth outside, the forecasters’ predictions seemed to be coming true. It poured until forty-five minutes before Amber and Daniel’s ceremony in an alfalfa […]

Nikole and Arun had settled on February partly to avoid sticky summer heat on the day they eloped. And one of the things I remember best about that day — our first wedding of 2012 — was how Nikole told us that, as she’d driven to her friend’s salon to get her hair and makeup […]
