I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

The day after Arun’s birthday, and the day before Nikole’s, they headed to the hospital for a routine checkup on their soon-to-be-born baby girl. And the doctor told Nikole it was time. Then. They were going to meet Alani that very day. So they were sent upstairs at Halifax Hospital for what the doctors called “prep.” […]

The story goes like this, Nikole said: When it was time to let their family know that they were having a girl, Nikole and Arun wanted a special way to break the news to her father. They searched and searched for a pink soccer ball for her former pro-soccer-player dad. When they couldn’t find one, […]

A few weeks ago, I received an email from one of my fellow Pursuit 31 photographers, Melissa. She was coming to town to visit family, she told me, and she was hoping to get some family photos while they were here. As I said last time I photographed a sweet family, families aren’t my usual […]

You might recognize Sonnette from her newborn portraits and four-month portraits — or you might not, now that she’s hit the big 0-1. Photographing her with her family has been such a pleasure throughout this past year, because they’re as sweet as families come. Clearly. Sonnette arrived at her great aunt and great uncle’s house […]

We met up at The Casements at 7:00 p.m. this past Monday. It was still swelteringly hot and squint-inducingly sunny. There was one other teensy obstacle to the DeLorenzo’s family session: Baby girl was asleep. Sound asleep. Her aunts had been in the back seat with her on the drive there, tasked with keeping the three-year-old […]

By four months old, there’s no question a little girl has a mind of her own. Hanging out with her family one morning last week — in some seriously stifling heat at 9 a.m. — Sonnette impatiently flipped through the pages of the storybook Mom read to her. Go faster, Mom, Sonnette’s newly-acquired motor skills […]
