I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

A confession, which is somewhat sad, and more than somewhat true: When I’ve got my camera, I constantly look for beauty — in a bride’s anxious smile, in a sweeping landscape. When I don’t have my camera, I often forget to actively look. But a sunset will always halt me in my tracks. So will […]

It seems like recently I’ve been fielding a lot of camera questions — from friends, from strangers, from people on Facebook. In some cases, I’ve felt completely up to answering the questions; in others, I haven’t felt qualified. But here’s what I know: As someone who hasn’t had a digital SLR camera slung over her […]

Today, I’m going to finish organizing Kim and Darin’s wedding pictures. Looking through them, I feel all warm and fuzzy as the day springs to life again: Kim dancing with her dad, misty-eyed; the happy couple wandering Yacht Harbor Village in their first minutes as husband and wife. But I also feel all warm and […]

I decided I was done. I was never doing a shoot like that again. Ever! Finished-finito-fin. It wasn’t photography I was quitting, or any one type of photography. It was shooting with all my extra gear in a backpack that had become absolutely out of the question. Fumbling with zippers and pockets to retrieve a […]

Shooting weddings isn’t only part of my job, it’s something I truly, truly love. And it’s something I loved before it became my job. Not too long ago, before I was in the wedding business, I was a recurring wedding guest — and I always had a camera in my purse. The thing was, I […]
