LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

We had been dating for three years. We had watched other friends meet someone new, start dating, get engaged, get married, and get pregnant in that time frame. And I was losing patience. Mostly because everyone else and their grandmothers were making me feel like Danny and I were supposed to be engaged by that point. […]

Well, I’ve been on a bit of a media blackout this week since I don’t want to see the results of Olympic events before I watch them on tape delay each night . . . so Nikole and Arun’s feature on Le Magnifique totally slipped under my radar! Time to fix that. I’m going to […]

Feast your eyes on what we feasted on: I really need to make pretty food more frequently (although in this case, Julie gets all the credit — I just found the recipe and provided the ingredients). And then I need to photograph the pretty food, and then devour the pretty food. Really, all three steps […]

I don’t know where this poster originated, but it popped up in my Facebook news feed yesterday, courtesy of a San Francisco photographer I’ve been following for some time, Abi Q. Above the poster, she had written, “If not now, when?”Thanks for the reminder, Abi. Time for me to keep pushing through all the changes […]

When we met up with Tammy and Marc at Turkey Lake Park near their home in Orlando yesterday, Tammy knew what to expect: A picnic, and pictures documenting their love story and engagement. But when Marc took her there for a picnic once before, she hadn’t seen a proposal coming. That afternoon, Marc had set […]
