LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

True to her personality, she didn’t want anything too fancy. She didn’t want anything too formal, anything that would put her in the spotlight for very long. In fact, Kaci’s the kind of girl who might actually prefer to let someone else be the guest of honor at her own bridal shower. But she couldn’t […]

The other day, Danny asked me, very intently, what we were doing on Friday evening. Nothing, I told him. We had no plans, nowhere we had to be. And then he got the biggest grin on his face and said he wanted to go on a date with me on Friday night. I don’t know […]

In three words: I loved it. In five words: I didn’t take many pictures. So, although I may or may not eventually post some more New Orleans shots on the blog, I hope you’ll please enjoy this one to the fullest, or as much as you can enjoy a photo of a name badge: I […]

In the past few weeks, as I’ve been talking with brides on pretty much a daily basis, I’ve really begun to understand something that is simultaneously incredibly cool and overwhelmingly humbling: As a wedding photographer, a couple isn’t just hiring me to take beautiful pictures on their wedding day, or even provide a catalog of […]

We couldn’t have asked for a better afternoon, or a better family. Plus a tea set. Tulle. Some sidewalk chalk. It really can’t get any better. And the best part is that I’ll get to do it all over again — when baby Sonnette is born in a few weeks, and again every three months, […]

Nikole spent the week leading up to their engagement session stressing out over what to wear. I spent the hours leading up to their engagement session stressing out over the unseasonably gray, rainy weather. A part of me wished we could reschedule. I’m so glad we couldn’t. The night before, Nikole put together two perfect […]
