LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Ever since I was about thirteen, I’ve gotten wildly nostalgic at the end of the year. Some years it’s been worse than others. This year is fairly mild as far as the nostalgia goes. But what an incredible year it’s been.Seventeen fantastic weddings. Trips to California, New York, Washington state. Great times with friends and […]

I loved this as I a very young child. I love it just as much, or even more, now as an adult. Merry Christmas. ~ Laura + Danny

We’ll be spending today wrapping gifts, prepping food, and celebrating Jesus’ advent at the candlelight Christmas Eve service tonight. However you spend your Christmas Eve, we wish you a blessed holiday. Preferably one set to a great Christmas soundtrack. A few of my recent favorites: “It’s True” – Sara Groves “Joy To the World” – […]

As weddings go, this one is best summed up as “joyful.” And “simply beautiful.” And also “as laid back and fun as the two people who got married.” Kristin and Billy’s wedding day at The Estate on the Halifax – Tavern & Chapel In the Garden absolutely overflowed with love and happiness, and happy, loving […]

In the spring, I did my most recent version of “what camera gear we use” on the blog, but it’s time for an update. Because we got the Nikkor 85 mm f/ 1.4 back in June, and it has dramatically changed the way I shoot. As in, I use this lens every chance I get. Here’s […]

What do you remember about Christmas when you were young? I remember this a bit vaguely. But stashed in a drawer at my parents’ house, my family still has those outfits that my grandmother made for us. I remember Christmas pageants at church and with my home school group. There was that one year when […]
