LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

We came by plane, by train, by car. We came from far-flung corners of the country — from Connecticut and Maine, from Minnesota and Illinois, from California and Arizona, from Florida and Kentucky, from Virginia and New Jersey. Even from Canada. We came wearied from our travels — from unnervingly bumpy flights, from too many […]

Fall is starting to settle in around us (even if it still feels like July in many parts of the country), but let’s take a little step back in time to a mild spring evening at the beginning of June at the University of Virginia. We were there to meet Sharon and Harrison for their […]

This morning, I hopped on a plane. All by myself. For the first time ever. True fact: I’ve only ever flown with friends or Danny in the seat beside me. Today though, I headed out on an adventure by myself . . . for a not-so-little get together with nearly 100 amazing women — all […]

We were teasing them both, of course, when we asked Tricia, “You do know what you’ve gotten yourself into, right?” after she married our longtime friend, Jonathan, this afternoon in Jacksonville. Tricia laughed, nodded her head. She wrapped her arms around him just a big tighter. “Oh yes.” A lifetime of laughing. And loving. Congratulations, Mr. […]

This morning, a photographer friend from another state shared something someone had said to her recently. The person quipped that wedding photographers are so protective of their work, and the person couldn’t understand why. The words the person used were, “It’s not like it’s real art. I have yet to see a wedding image that […]

Ninety years is a milestone well worth celebrating. It was also a great reason to spend a week in Virginia with family — and the family came from all over: Florida, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Michigan. Happy birthday, Grandma. ~ Danny + Laura
