I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

My Favorite Things . . . Right Now: Postseason Baseball, A Sweet New Toy, and Faking Fall In Florida | Florida Wedding Photographers

Monday, October 15th, 2012

Well, it’s October. That means baseball — usually the best baseball of the year, and for the most part, the games have been great. Although I have to send a quick shout out to a few umpires for making the first two ALCS games between the Yankees and Tigers some of the best examples of bad calls that I’ve seen in some time. Well, this side of the NFL, anyway. If the Yankees lose this series, I won’t entirely blame the umpires. But I will hold a bit of a grudge.

October usually means something else, too: Fall. Beautiful, glorious fall. Except we are in Florida, so mostly October just means extended summer. This past week, we had a little foretaste of fall, and it was the stuff I dream about. On Saturday, Danny and I had the windows open all over the house as we dove in for a serious autumn cleaning, which culminated with me hauling the fall decor out of the closet and deciding that even if we’re still using the swimming pool and even if we’re most comfortable in shorts and a tee shirt, I am going to get my money’s worth out of this season, darn it. So we’ve got our Autumn Wreath candle out on the counter, I’ve been wearing my knee high boots, and I’ve got roasted root veggies, lots of soups and homemade breads planned for the coming weeks. Fall, we’re celebrating you whether or not you actually show up!

And there’s one other thing I’m celebrating right now. As in, doing a serious happy dance. We got a new lens last week. Danny and I were in Orlando on Friday to check out some venues and shoot Claire’s bridal portraits (which I cannot wait to bring to the blog in exactly one week!), and we swung by Colonial Photo & Hobby during some down time. And promptly bought the lens we’d been eyeing for many, many moons. I think the Nikkor 35 mm f/ 1.4 is on the fast track to replace the 50 1.4 as my favorite lens, and it might be trying to replace the 70-200 as Danny’s favorite, too. Maybe they can all coexist happily. Regardless, we’re absolutely thrilled with the creamy gorgeousness of the 35, and it’s already been through a workout with Claire’s bridals. We can’t wait to put it through its paces again and again at the four weddings we have coming up over the next four weekends!~ Laura
