As a teenager, I spent the entire year looking forward to Camp Kulaqua. As an adult now, I spend the entire year helping plan for it. Then it rushes by in a whirlwind of laughter and singing and too-little sleep and much-needed caffeine. And I think I love it just as much now as I did half a lifetime ago. I love the place, and I love the people, and I love watching God work in these kids’ lives. We can’t often hang onto pieces of our own childhood this way. But for me, just stepping inside the King Chapel and smelling the familiar scent of that building — riding a golf cart down the dirt roads — singing at the top of my lungs as five hundred of us worship together — it feels just the same as it always has. And I might love it even more now.
