I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Our Lives, Lately

Wednesday, August 27th, 2014

So it’s been a while since I posted anything but photo shoots on the blog — which might make you think there’s nothing going on in our lives except photo shoots. The truth is actually kind of the opposite. So much has been happening in our lives that I haven’t taken the time to blog anything but photo shoots! Here’s a little peek at what we’ve been doing this summer:

June —

– We went to Virginia to visit family, and to shoot Erena and Jesse’s wedding. We got to spend several days just relaxing, enjoying good food and cooler weather and mountain views.
– We had two sets of house guests in two weeks’ time. Back in the day, we referred to the house as Hotel Yang, and we were working on reestablishing that this summer.
– Before Amanda got married, I was involved in a lot of wedding prep with her and some of my fellow bridesmaids. It had been several years since I was involved in that part of wedding planning, and it was a blast.

July —

– We hosted a 4th of July cookout — our first cookout in a looooong time.
– I chaperoned youth group summer camp for a week, and I’m pretty much convinced that it’s every bit as much fun going to camp as an adult as it is when you’re a kid.
– Danny went on a business trip to Ohio right before I got back from camp . . . so we didn’t see each other for eight very long days.
– We got to Maryland on a Thursday night for Christine and Greg‘s engagement parties and engagement session, and we headed home Monday morning. It was a whirlwind weekend!

August —

– Our friends Julie and Elspeth came to visit along with my brother, and we day tripped and went boating and had the quintessential summer adventure: A day at a water park.
– We scheduled our trip to pick Julie up from the airport around eating at 4Rivers. If you live in Florida and haven’t ever been there, go. Now. You’ll thank me later.
– I’ve spent as many hours as possible writing. I have a lot of lost time I’m trying to make up for!
– Danny and I spent this past Sunday afternoon anchored 100 yards off the beach in Ponce Inlet, letting our feet dangle in the crystal blue ocean. It may just be my favorite part of this summer yet. Ponce Inlet~ Laura
