I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Fiery Sunrise Daytona Beach Engagement Portraits

Friday, June 30th, 2017

I’m not entirely sure how this happened — I’ve lost count of the number of engagement sessions I’ve done at the beach, and I’ve shot over a dozen sunrise sessions in the past year, but somehow this was the very first time I’ve ever shot an engagement session, on the beach, as the sun rose.

It. Was. Gorgeous! Really, it was like a beach fairytale was happening in front of my camera!
Obligatory bling shot — yes, I mean both the sunrise and the gorgeous ring!
Could these two have looked any happier/more wonderful?!
And my favorite shot of the morning, this next one, proved all over again why I love capturing my subjects’ personalities. I knew I wanted to get an image of him kissing her hand, but I wanted it to look natural. I asked if he ever kissed her hand, and if so, how. He said he does pretty often, but always only when they’re walking — he’ll simply lift her hands up to his lips as they go.

So I asked them to show me. But I think, as is always the case with my very favorite shots, for just a moment they completely forgot I was there.
Thank you so much for letting me in on this beautiful morning with you two!
