I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

So the term “better late than never” definitely applies to this situation, because these pictures are late in hitting the blog! We shot these portraits last October, more than half a year ago, but I promise this beautiful sunrise session was worth the wait! This family’s previous portrait session was about as different as could be […]

This is only Part One. That’s right. Claudia’s senior session was so much fun (and involved so many beautiful portraits in two different locations) that I decided to split it into two blog posts. Later this week, her equestrian portraits. But today, her gorgeous sunrise beach portraits:This was one of our first frames of the […]

When a big extended family shows up with siblings and cousins and two sets of grandparents all in the mix, it makes for a really fun morning! This sweet family, on their annual summer beach vacation, came to me because their friends had just done a shoot with me when they were on their own […]

Because I’m a natural light portrait photographer, I prefer to schedule my outdoor portrait sessions during or close to golden hour — when the sunlight gets all warm and glowy as it dips low along the horizon. But not all sessions can take place during golden hour. Here’s what it typically looks like to shoot […]
