LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

For the past several days, since Danny and I left WinShape‘s quaint, almost Alpine-esque village in North Georgia’s rolling hills, I’ve been struggling to explain exactly what happened last week. A handful of people have asked me, “So how was that retreat?” and I’ve stammered to articulate a response more coherent and specific than, “Amazing!” […]

A year ago, Jesse was getting ready to ask Erena to marry him, and the proposal happened over the summer, against the backdrop of snow capped mountains, when he visited her in Bolivia. A few months from now, they’ll tie the knot against the backdrop of Virginia’s lush Blue Ridge Mountains, and we truly can’t […]

For months — no, closer to two years, actually — I’ve updated this blog five days a week, with rare exceptions. A couple weeks ago, I explained that that was going to change. I’ve had less of a presence on the blog and on Facebook, and I’ve been more present in living my life, chasing […]

Theirs is a story of being in the right place at the right time. Caitlin had come to Florida from Colorado, with a stop in Arizona first to earn her bachelor’s degree, and Boomer had come to school at Embry-Riddle from a small town in the heart of Florida. Then they met each other at […]

Danny and I live just outside of Daytona Beach and we had our own wedding here, so when it comes to Daytona Beach wedding venues, we’ve pretty much been to all of them — whether we’ve been there to shoot, to attend a wedding, or to scout out the venue for a wedding of our […]

Let me be completely honest: I love photography. I love the magic that happens when two people who are in love step in front of my camera, and I have the opportunity to showcase that love, to make it more captivating and immediate and real than the couple has ever imagined their love could look.I love […]
