LAURA YANG

I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

This morning, the wonderful Ashley shared all the pictures from the photo booth at the dance party at this year’s Pursuit 31 Conference, and I was so, so excited to see them. Ashley had set up the lighting and the camera, a D700, like I shoot, with a 50 mm lens on it, and I was […]

Sometimes you just need to head down roads you don’t know. Sometimes you need to just go exploring. And sometimes you need to just park your car and go for a walk in the woods. Or along a boardwalk criss-crossing a lake covered with alien life forms — otherwise known as lily pads.Yesterday afternoon, Danny […]

As we headed to Sunset Harbor, Kelly told her bridesmaids, “It looks like we’ll be going with Plan B.” As in, an indoor ceremony, on the grand staircase, instead of on the dock, due to rain. Kelly was ready for anything — ready to simply marry Jeff, and to celebrate the day with their family […]

She had insisted she wouldn’t cry during their first look, and was quite sure he would. So, naturally, at their first look, Marc grinned from ear to ear while Tammy blinked her long lashes as rapidly as she could, willing those unplanned tears away. It’s hard to believe their beautiful fall Orlando Airport Marriott wedding […]

A couple years ago, I remember seeing the Facebook notification, clicking on it, then having to re-read it several times to make sure I understood what the commenter had posted under one of my photographs. Seemingly she was offering me some constructive criticism on a preview photo I had posted for a client. It was […]

In Florida, we don’t get too much of fall. (You may have noticed I’ve lamented this before. Multiple times.) I grew up with little bits of fall at my parents house — Chinese tallow trees with leaves that would turn vibrant red (though usually the majority of the tree stayed green until January); sycamore trees […]
