I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Fact: I am a terrible gardener, thus I don’t enjoy gardening. Fact: there are some species of flowering plants that are tough enough to resist my black thumb. Our bougainvillea nearly froze this winter, and now it’s blooming more brilliantly than ever. We thought our azaleas had died, but they’re riotous with color right now. And […]

This morning, the wonderful Ashley shared all the pictures from the photo booth at the dance party at this year’s Pursuit 31 Conference, and I was so, so excited to see them. Ashley had set up the lighting and the camera, a D700, like I shoot, with a 50 mm lens on it, and I was […]

A couple years ago, I remember seeing the Facebook notification, clicking on it, then having to re-read it several times to make sure I understood what the commenter had posted under one of my photographs. Seemingly she was offering me some constructive criticism on a preview photo I had posted for a client. It was […]

A couple days ago, I read this article from RockNRoll Bride about how competition is good for everyone, and I wanted to stand up and clap. Kat, (the editor/writer behind the popular blog) was just so fearlessly unconcerned with stepping on toes — she just wanted to set the record straight for those of us who might […]

For way too long, we’ve worked in an overcrowded, always-cluttered office. And now, as of this weekend, I can say that in the past tense: We had worked in an overcrowded, always-cluttered office, but we don’t anymore! Our office isn’t beautifully appointed with the most stylish furniture and decor, but it’s clean, functional, and gives me […]

Recently, I have been listening to Seth Godin’s incredible book The Icarus Deception. I can’t say enough good things about how challenging, liberating, and inspiring this book has been for me — but today I want to say only one thing that I’ve taken away from this book. Until something you’ve created is shared, Godin argues, […]
