I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Last week, in the middle of some frustrations and aggravations, I decided I would spend the coming days focused on blessings and being thankful instead of ticking off every last thing that annoyed me. With Thanksgiving the big even of the week, I promised I would be cataloging some of the everyday things I often […]

Last week we shot an exquisite bridal portrait session. And of course we can’t share the photographs until after the wedding next month. But don’t worry (not the you were) because they will absolutely be worth the wait!Isn’t that the way just about everything works? If it’s worth anything, it’s worth waiting for and persevering […]

Remember middle school and high school, and even college, when you tried so hard to do things right? You know what I mean. Buy the right clothes, listen to the right music, work at the right after school job, have the right circle of friends, be in the right clubs or sports. Yes, of course you […]

It feels like fall! No wait, just kidding; it was nearly 80 degrees yesterday and is supposed to hit the mid 80s again early next week. It’s a gorgeous sunny day with crisp blue skies! No wait, just kidding; now it’s gray and windy and threatening rain. Florida — please, make up your mind. It’s mid […]

A couple years ago, I remember seeing the Facebook notification, clicking on it, then having to re-read it several times to make sure I understood what the commenter had posted under one of my photographs. Seemingly she was offering me some constructive criticism on a preview photo I had posted for a client. It was […]

In Florida, we don’t get too much of fall. (You may have noticed I’ve lamented this before. Multiple times.) I grew up with little bits of fall at my parents house — Chinese tallow trees with leaves that would turn vibrant red (though usually the majority of the tree stayed green until January); sycamore trees […]
