I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

As I typed the sentence in an email, I was struck by how very true it was. And how very often I don’t want to believe it. I wrote, “The biggest blessings rarely come from quietly keeping to the safe path; they come from setting off into the jungle and trusting God to — mostly […]

New Year’s resolutions have never really been my thing. They’re just those promises people make to themselves and break to themselves. But goals — now goals are something I can get on board with! So I didn’t make any resolutions for this year; I just made a ton of goals. I made a goal to finally […]

So here I am, back in my own office inside my own home, in my own town in this (sometimes, but not quite enough as of late) sunny corner of the country. After the whirlwind of going up to Virginia for (a white!) Christmas and New Year’s and then returning to Florida just in time […]

As we look back on 2012, we can’t help smiling to ourselves. This was a good year. A very good year. (Big thanks to Rachel Kim — Danny’s cousin — for sharing the awesome New Year’s banner she designed!) We’ve got this crazy idea that 2013 is going to be the best. year. ever. So […]

At this time of the year every year, without fail, I feel contemplative. As a teenager, it was bad. Really bad. I would actually mope about the year we were leaving behind — I think it came from having a bit of a Peter Pan complex, the whole not wanting to grow up thing. And […]

It’s been kind of quiet here on the blog recently. That’s because our lives have been really loud and busy! Danny and I are in Virginia for the holidays, and we spent a wonderful Christmas with his side of the family, at a church service in the morning, cooking our Christmas feast during the afternoon, […]
