I've
always been
storyteller.

But I never set out to be a photographer. I was (and still am!) going to be a writer. And then as I worked toward that writing goal, someone put a camera in my hand and asked me to try telling stories with something besides words. So with an English nerd's love for character and tone, a romantic's love for poignant beauty, and a realist's love for imperfection, I dove in.

I've
always been a
story-teller.

That was back in 2010.

Since that time, photography has changed much of my life. It's brought me some of my dearest friends. It's reshaped the way my husband Danny and I view serving others. It has even literally taken me around the world. One thing that hasn't changed: my soul-stirring desire to tell stories that feel so real you're sure you knew them before you heard them. Or saw them. It's my privilege to tell those stories for my clients, and for the generations of their families still to come.

Ninety years is a milestone well worth celebrating. It was also a great reason to spend a week in Virginia with family — and the family came from all over: Florida, Georgia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Michigan. Happy birthday, Grandma. ~ Danny + Laura

We were down to the last hours of summer. George and I sat on the slope of the front lawn, he nestled against my leg intently, eyeing a neighbor’s open garage door for signs of the life he heard inside, I sprawled in the grass, soaking up the almost-autumn air. Rich golden sunlight played across […]

For today’s totally random lunch, I credit the aggressive grocery budget Danny and I put ourselves on in July. Well, that and the fact that I really, really didn’t want to have to make a trip to the grocery store this morning. So I decided I was going to scrounge up something quick and unexpected for lunch. […]

When we drove to Virginia and back for Sharon + Harrison’s wedding, I read out loud to Danny. We finished Mockingjay, the last of the Hunger Games trilogy (with an unfortunate seven hours left to drive. . .) on the way home, and I think we accomplished a rare feat: We found a piece of fiction […]

We had been dating for three years. We had watched other friends meet someone new, start dating, get engaged, get married, and get pregnant in that time frame. And I was losing patience. Mostly because everyone else and their grandmothers were making me feel like Danny and I were supposed to be engaged by that point. […]

Feast your eyes on what we feasted on: I really need to make pretty food more frequently (although in this case, Julie gets all the credit — I just found the recipe and provided the ingredients). And then I need to photograph the pretty food, and then devour the pretty food. Really, all three steps […]
